Nite Ize Goods for a Safer Run

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a morning person, so I typically run in the afternoons and evenings – especially in the winter, when 3 p.m. seems to be the warmest point of the day. There have been times I’ve cut it close running after work, and I think this is one of the most dangerous times of day for runners – the sun close to setting, people distracted by their evening commutes home. I never run outdoors with headphones but I could be better about wearing reflective or lighted gear to help drivers see me.

SlapLit

The opportunity to test and review some of Nite Ize’s gear came at a perfect time, with a package of innovative products to try out. I was especially excited for the SlapLit. Let me tell you – if you loved slap bracelets as a kid, this will bring back some awesome memories. When else do you get a chance to use a slap bracelet as an adult?

Besides its cool factor for nerds like me, the SlapLit is perfect for a dusk or dawn run. I was heading out on a run around 5 p.m., and it gave me some peace of mind that I was visible as the sun was setting. It’s also insanely easy to use. There’s a button on the end; you press once for a bright, solid glow, or you can press again for flashing LED to provide even more illumination. A third press of the button turns off the illumination for storage.

Thumbs up for SlapLit!

The LED Marker Band is made out of the same material as the SlapLit, but it has an adjustable band that you can tighten or loosen. It’s comfortable to wear while running and you shouldn’t experience any movement.

The best part? Both the SlapLit and LED Marker Band are just $11.99 each. Nite Ize spared no expense* with their innovative line of products in ensuring that the designs are user-friendly and well-constructed, but they have managed to keep the price points low.

INOVA STS Headlamp

The INOVA STS Headlamp works like a charm, and it’s reasonably priced at $34.99. I loved the swipe settings on the top, and I bet they would work with e-touch gloves (I cannot be 100 percent on that, since I don’t own any). You can watch how the headlamp works in this video. I prefer the solid white LED light, but you can choose levels of brightness, switch between white and red, and even utilize a fast blinking light to catch someone’s attention or be extra visible.

For whatever reason, I could not for the life of me get a photo that didn’t make me look like a ghost or blind you. I decide to go with blinding you – sorry.

ShoeLit

You would be surprised at how useful having your shoes illuminated is for visibility, and I was impressed by how bright the Nite Ize ShoeLits are – and easy to use.

Unlike other shoe illumination and shoe pouches (like for keys or IDs), the ShoeLits don’t need to be threaded into the laces! This is a huge time-saving convenience and especially useful if you rotate your running shoes throughout the week.

They clip onto your laces and then you just twist the light to turn it on. So easy, and it’s a great way to make sure you don’t trip over a crack in the sidewalk.

Other Nite Ize Goods

Besides illumination for outdoor activities and housework, Nite Ize specializes in items like Gear Ties. If you’re like me and tend to reuse grocery store product bag ties to hold cords together, it’s time to invest in a set of Gear Ties – a two-pack of the 6″ variety is just $4.49.

To be honest, the big thing here is that inevitably those grocery store ties wear away, and I end up cutting myself on a jagged edge or it disintegrates in my purse. The Gear Ties are colorful, reusable, and very durable, which makes them much better sustainable choices.

In addition to what I’ve reviewed above, I received some clippable Gear Ties meant for luggage or lifting, as well as a Curvyman headphones organizer. This post is getting rather long, so I hope to feature these items in other posts, particularly the next time I travel!

Nite Ize: The Verdict

I knew Nite Ize had to be a good company with quality products for BibRave to partner with them – that much I trust. But how would the products hold up after use? I tend to be skeptical when it comes to “stuff,” and I believe wholeheartedly in quality over quantity.

Without a doubt, their illumination items – the INOVA STS Headlamp, SlapLit / LED Marker Band, and ShoeLits – are fantastic. The SlapLit is one of those items I want to buy for every runner born before the year 1995 as a stocking stuffer, and it totally charmed me. But what’s even better is that it’s useful. It made me feel more visible and more secure at night in a busy, vehicle-heavy area. The headlamp is brighter than many vehicles’ lights – especially when they’re covered in salt and slush – and is comfortable, utilitarian accessory for any runner.

The Gear Ties and Curvyman are perfect for minimalists, people who love electronics, or those looking to color-code certain objects. I’m sure I’m not the only one with too many chargers laying around, usually tangled in a pile. If you have a New Year’s resolution to declutter and to organize, these are durable, environmentally-friendly ways to get started.

I feel very fortunate to have reviewed a selection of Nite Ize’s products and would happily spend my money with them. (For instance, when I get a dog, I plan to get one of these LED collars!) Their products are well-made, meant to last, and priced with the consumer in mind.
